Activists in many countries are struggling hard to initiate a dialogue on FGM. Yet, attempts to launch a discussion are quickly stalled with denials and down-playing by politicians. To initiate a debate and to win decision makers to act against FGM solid research results are essential.

Local media representatives are generally open to report about FGM, but they want solid facts. Politicians will not start debating campaigns and laws if they can argue that FGM is a fading minority problem. Local NGOs and government institutions need to know their target group and motivations for a campaign.

Therefore, the Stop FGM Middle East campaign has made it its aim to collect and to initiate research on FGM.
